The south section of Line 17 of BJMTR has officially implemented Fully Automatic Operation (FAO) system

Before the 2024 Spring Festival travel rush, the south section of Line 17 of BJMTR has officially implemented Fully Automatic Operation, further enhancing passenger travel experience.

Line 17 is located in the eastern part of Beijing, running from the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area in the south to the Future Science City in Changping District in the north. It is a high-capacity express line running in a north-south direction and is also the first line of BJMTR to operate a FAO system.

The trains on Line 17 are equipped with functions such as obstacle detection, detection of foreign objects in door gaps, and real-time image transmission, which can ensure passenger safety during fully automatic operation with the FAO system. For example, during operation, the trains can detect obstacles in real time and activate emergency braking when necessary. After arriving at the station, the system can autonomously assess whether there are any foreign objects in the gap between the train doors and the platform screen doors to prevent passengers' belongings from getting caught by the doors. Different from other lines, Line 17 can also utilize a high-bandwidth 5G communication EUHT network for train-ground communication systems to transmit train video monitoring information to the operation control center in real time with high quality. In case of emergencies, it is convenient for the staff to quickly assess the situation, coordinate and handle it accordingly, thereby further enhancing the safety and reliability of the trains.

On the basis of ensuring safety, the operation of the FAO system has effectively improved the operational efficiency of the south section of Line 17, facilitating convenient travel for passengers. The trains in the south section of Line 17 are deeply integrated with multiple systems, including signals, vehicles, comprehensive monitoring, and communication. This integration enables functions such as automatic operation according to the timetable, precise station parking, automatic opening and closing of doors, and automatic departure.
